Jean Schortgen was the first worker to be elected into parliament. His understanding for the poor and the oppressed on one hand, and for the privileged ones on the other, earned him the title Son of the people.

Pierre LAUX
1918-1944

Little is known about Luxembourgers serving the allies to fight nazism during the second world war. Even less is known about luxembourgish men who participated in the landing operation in the Normandie, which took place the 6th of June in 1944, in order to free europe from nazism. In this context, the town of Kayl can pride itself about one of its citizens, namely Pierre LAUX, who participated along with 6 fellow country men in this operation.
